A Wedding In Farm Country

This beautiful wedding in Three Hills and Trochu, Alberta, weathered a few storms...

The calm before the storm...

The day started out bright and sunny.

I entered the bride's family home and was greeted with smiles and laughter. As usual, I gathered the smaller details and photographed them, as Kayla had her hair and make-up finished. The conversation was light, and I could hear her father cracking jokes and milling about. When it was time to slip on her dress, she had her mother carefully hook together the delicate buttons, and peaked over her shoulder while they reminisced.

The first look with dad...

I always end up getting misty eyed for the reveal. Dads are so sweet; they always try to be tough and keep a straight face, and then the emotions overwhelm them. Big hugs are shared, laughter spills out uncontrollably, and then the quiet moment settles in. Tears begin to fall, and reality sets in, his little girl is all grown up.

It's time to place the final touches and head to the church.

The Ceremony

A beautiful and inspiring catholic ceremony saw Blake & Kayla wed before God.

The storm approaches...

After the ceremony we head over to the Trochu Arboretum, a gorgeous garden full of lush green foliage and beautiful flowers. The clouds have rolled in, dark and heavy. The wind is picking up and a sense of nervousness seeps into the guests. We quickly speed through family formals and capture a few funny wedding party poses; it begins to rain. We run to the bus hoping for the storm to pass...

Some fast thinking...

As we wait in the bus, someone suggests we outrun the storm and head to Three Hills, fast, before the storm hits there. This idea worked! We drove out of the rain and into another universe full of sunshine, with a light breeze. We arrive at Anderson Park and marvel at the luck in weather! We focus on bride groom portraits here before heading off to the top of the world.

A toast to the happy couple!

Congratulations Blake & Kayla!
